How does facial recognition work in time and attendance recording?

Facial recognition is a security technology used by Pontotel to validate the employee's identity when clocking in and out. This feature ensures greater reliability in the process, reduces the risk of fraud, and facilitates work schedule management.

This article complements the content on how to configure and manage facial recognition . Here, we will explain how the feature works in practice during use by employees.

How does the facial recognition process work in the BatePonto app?

  1. Image capture

At the time of registration, the device's camera is activated to perform facial recognition. This process may occur before or after entering the PIN, depending on how the collector profile .

  1. Comparison with the database

The system compares the photo taken with the images previously registered and approved in the Facial Biometrics Management system .

  1. Identity validation

If the photo matches the registered standard, the employee's information will be displayed for confirmation.

After confirming the data and choosing the type of record (entry, pause, exit, etc.), the point is saved normally.

Otherwise, the system may block the point of sale or require PIN entry (if facial recognition is performed beforehand), depending on the company's settings.

After the data is confirmed, the camera will open again, but this time to take a regular photo next to the location (if this feature is enabled).

Several factors can compromise image validation and lead to errors:

  • Dirty or blurry camera.
  • Face cut off or out of focus.
  • Dark environment or light shining directly into the face.
  • Photo taken at the wrong angle (from the side, from above, or from below).
  • Use of accessories that hinder identification, such as filters, sunglasses, caps, or masks.
  • The presence of other people in the photo or in the background of the image.

Observations

  • For facial recognition to work correctly, the employee needs to have high-quality photos registered in the Biometrics Management system .
  • This functionality depends on the device's camera being working and having permission granted.
  • The process is quick and takes place in a few seconds, requiring no additional action from the employee.
  • It is possible to view the photos saved by facial recognition directly on the employee's timesheet .

Facial recognition brings more security and reliability to time and attendance recording, ensuring that only the employee themselves can validate their work hours. This feature is simple to use, happens automatically when clocking in and out, and can be configured according to each company's policy.
