How do I register a 12x36 shift schedule?

The 12x36 shift is a work schedule model in which the employee works 12 consecutive hours and has 36 hours off. It is widely used in sectors that require continuous coverage, such as healthcare, security, and operations.

In this article, you will see, step by step, how to register this schedule in the Pontotel system, so that the cycle repeats correctly without overlapping shifts.

What to do before registering the schedule

  1. For the 12x36 shift schedule, you will need two basic shifts:
  • 12-hour Workday: The 12-hour shift that will be worked during the workday (e.g., 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM).
  • Day Off: For the employee's day off.

If you have any questions about how to register a journey, we have an article that explains everything in detail.

💡 Tip: The time off schedule is pre-registered in the system.

How to create a 12x36 scale

  1. In the navigation menu of the__Gestão__ website, click on **Registrations**, then select Schedules.

  1. Click on "Add New".

  1. Fill in the scale information:
  • Scale name: Choose a clear name to easily identify the scale.
  • Code: Enter a code of your choice for identification.
  • Monthly workload (optional): Fill in if you want to keep a record of the number of hours and minutes in the schedule. Otherwise, leave it blank.
  • Scheme: select 1 in the first field (one work day) and 1 in the second field (one day off). This sets up exactly the 12-hour work/36-hour off cycle.

Example of completion

  1. Define the work schedule:
  • Click the first button to set your workday schedule. Choose the 12-hour schedule.
  • Next, select the 2nd day and choose the day off.

It is also possible to reverse the work schedules, so that the first day of the schedule is the day off.

  1. Click "Add" to save the scale.

💡 Tips:
  • Consistency in the schedule: the "1x1" schedule is essential for the 12x36 pattern to function. Any modification can break the necessary slack cycle.
  • Recording long work shifts: 12-hour shifts may require special attention regarding labor laws, breaks, and intervals. Confirm that all legal requirements are being met to avoid penalties or complaints.
  • Check for overlaps: ensure there are no conflicting schedules or timetables between multiple employees or divisions, especially when setting up continuous shifts.
  • Test before applying: if possible, conduct a test with a user to ensure that the system correctly calculates working hours, time off, and shift transitions.
  • To link a schedule to an employee, see the article: How to link a schedule to an employee.

The 12x36 shift schedule is an efficient solution for companies that need continuous operation without long interruptions, but it requires precise data entry to maintain the work/rest cycle as planned. By following the steps here, you ensure that the schedule works correctly in Pontotel.
