What is the payroll start date and how do I set it?

The payroll start date is one of the essential parameters for the correct management of time and attendance records in the Pontotel system. It determines from which day the entries will be counted on the employee's timesheet, organizing the closing cycle and facilitating the verification of records.

How does it work in practice?

When setting the payroll start date, you define the day of the month on which the payroll calculation begins. From that date, the system will consider all time records for that employee for the new payroll cycle.

Where do I set the payroll start date?

The start date is defined within the employee's record. Therefore, pay attention to the chosen day for each employee, so that everyone has the same date, unless your company performs payroll closing at different times.

Practical examples

  • If the payroll start date is set to the 1st, time and attendance records will be counted from the first to the last day of the month.
  • If the company chooses to start payroll on a different date, such as the 16th, the calculation cycle will run from the 16th of one month to the 15th of the following month.

This flexibility is important for companies that want to align payroll closing with specific payment dates, vacations, or other internal processes.

Change of period on the payslip

For employees who already have a payslip created, it is not recommended to change the payslip's start date, as this change will misconfigure the time and attendance records.

If your company needs to adjust the closing period—whether due to a change in the payment date or a reduction in payroll at the end of the year, for example—the correct procedure is to create a transition payroll with a customized period. The transition payroll acts as a "break" in the current payroll period.

Example of how the configuration is performed:

  • Current page: 01 to 31
  • Transition sheet: 01 to 20
  • New sheet: 21 to 20
  • Next pages: 21 to 20

In this case, if the original period was from the 1st to the 31st and you want to change it to the 21st to the 20th, you should not directly adjust the start date in the registration. This will affect all unlocked payrolls, including those already paid, changing the previous calculation period.

When creating a transition sheet , the history is preserved with the old periods, and subsequent sheets will follow the new interval.

⚠️ Important: The transition period must be less than 30 days for the adjustment to be applied correctly.
